| 要旨本文 | Biochar utilization from biomass gasification using thinned wood resources is a good way to adapt to forest management challenges attributed by steep slopes and decreasing lumber prices. Despite being a technique for forest value addition operating under J-credit system in Japan, biochar utilization from woody biomass presents a good opportunity to productive, adaptive and resilient agricultural practices which has a significant contribution to not only in soil amendment and improvement but also in CO2 emission reduction. Since biochar is more carbon-rich than charcoal, greater impacts can be achieved over time from renewable energy projects such as biomass gasification. This study aims to explore the J-credit system operations, current status and possibilities of utilizing biochar for climate-smart agriculture in Tanzania using a case study in Japan. |
