Detection of characteristics of tree crown shapes using UAV images in Nonobori beech forest, Kameyama, Mie
要旨本文 Examining the actual state of canopy gaps in forests is critically important for evaluating forest community structure and dynamics and for comparing gap disturbance regimes among different forests. Although the beech forest on Mt. Nonobori located in Mie prefecture of central Japan is designated as a natural monument by the prefecture, the survey has not been enough. The purpose of study is to investigate the characteristics of the forest canopy including canopy gaps using UAV images and field surveys. The obtained 28 RGB images taken on 28 July 2022 using UAV were orthorectified. Crown polygons were created by tracing with GIS while doing visual interpretation of crowns. Their crown area and shape were characterized by comparing them to the crown area and shape obtained from canopy projections maps of beech forests in previous studies.
