Detection of vulnerable sites for logging road construction using GIS in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands
要旨本文 Logging in the Solomon Islands causes a lot of problems such as soil and forest degradation, unpaved roads, soil erosion, sediments runoff, and other impacts it has on the environment. Appropriate logging road network design and its management are necessary for sustainable forest management. Therefore, properly assessing erosion susceptibility can lead to proper planning and design of forest roads. The purpose of this study is to detect topographically vulnerable sites for construction of logging roads. The susceptibility of forest erosion was able to be estimated using GIS and ten geo-environmental variables such as slope, aspect, relative relief, slope length and steepness (LS) factor, curvature, landforms, topographic wetness index (TWI), stream power index (SPI), stream head density, and land use/land cover.
