Exploring Spectral and Thermal Response of Forest Habitats through Satellite Imagery

Satellite imagery repositories provide an invaluable archive of data documenting Earth’s systems, offering a unique opportunity to analyze changes over time and gain insight into the dynamic processes shaping our planet. This study focuses on the spectral and thermal responses of various forest habitats within the Functional Urban Area (FUA) of Campobasso, Italy. By leveraging satellite remote sensing (SRS) data, we aimed to assess variations in spectral and thermal information across different forest habitats and explore whether these differences reflect ecological characteristics. Habitat data were derived from a regional detailed cartographic resource on ecosystems and anthropic pressures. Using Landsat 8 imagery from 2020–2023, we analyzed vegetation indices and land surface temperatures. Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in habitat responses, underscoring the potential of SRS in biodiversity monitoring and conservation planning. |
