This assessment utilizes the Toolkit for Ecosystem Service Site-based Assessment (TESSA) to evaluate ecosystem services provided by Jeli Forest Reserve located in the Central Forest Spine of Kelantan, Malaysia. The study highlights the critical role of tropical forests in mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, water regulation, and cultural values. Study emphasizes the significant carbon storage potential of Jeli Forest Reserve compared to nearby rubber plantations. The assessment identifies threats such as deforestation and agricultural expansion while underlining the need for conservation, reforestation, and sustainable management practices. By strengthening conservation efforts and promoting sustainable land management, this assessment underscores the importance of preserving Jeli Forest Reserve as a vital carbon sink and ecosystem service provider which contributing to regional and global climate change mitigation strategies. |
