Forest Harvesting System and Sustainability Management in Matang Mangrove Forest, Perak, Malaysia

Forest harvesting is among the contributor to the socioeconomic activities in Matang mangrove forest. The objective of this this study is to assess the forest harvesting and the sustainable management at Matang mangrove forest. Data collections were taken starting from felling tree until to the Kiln-Drying jetty. As a result, the forest harvesting system has been carried following the sustainable forest management. They can gain a double profit, because the forest harvesting operation is twice a day, which is equivalent to two 9-ton volumes of log output each day. The replanting must be done afterwards and be managed the panting until their become trees which ready to harvest again. In conclusion, the Matang mangrove forest's forest harvesting operation is managed sustainably to provide the raw material for the charcoal industry. |
