Saving the Endangered Nutmeg: Preliminary Study of Myristica teijsmannii Community in Sempu Island Indonesia

Myristica teijsmannii has been relatively understudied in terms of its environmental interactions and conservation needs. The primary objective of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the distribution and factors influencing its population on the island. Given the increasing pressures of habitat loss and climate change, data collected in this study is important for future conservation efforts and sustainable management practices. In this preliminary study, 32 M. teijsmannii location were sampled. The DBH and height of the focal tree was measured, and the environmental conditions such as angle of slope, total density of surrounded tree, light intensity, air temperature, and air humidity were recorded. Preliminary observations indicate that Javanese nutmeg measured has average DBH of 32.14 cm (± 9.54), and average height of 18.88 m (± 7.91). |
