要旨本文	Central Malawi's diverse ecosystems and significant forest cover are crucial for biodiversity conservation, climate regulation, and woody and non-woody products provisioning. However, recent three decades have seen notable deforestation and degradation due to agricultural expansion, urbanization, wildfire and illegal logging. Forest monitoring renders an essential tool to understand the dynamics of forest cover for effective and sustainable management forests. This study maps and examines forest cover changes using remote sensing and GIS technologies. Multi-temporal Landsat 8 and 5 images from 1994 to 2024 are analyzed to detect and quantify forest cover changes using NDVI. Supervised classification techniques with high-resolution Google Earth images to categorize land cover types. Post-classification comparison and Change Vector Analysis (CVA) identify areas of forest gain and loss, with accuracy assessed using error matrices and Kappa statistics.
